A safer internet for children in Mauritius
The Mauritian government, through the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, is launching a national campaign to protect children online.
During the event held at Sir Pierre Dalais School in Trou-d’Eau-Douce, the Minister stressed the importance of ensuring a safer digital environment for all. In particular, by calling for collective vigilance and responsible behavior on the Internet.
According to him: « the new generation is growing up in the digital age and must be aware of the dangers associated with using the Internet ». This campaign is not limited to students, but also includes their parents. The objective is to raise awareness of the risks of the Internet, such as cyberbullying and the disclosure of personal information. Thus, he specifies that « the initiative will be extended to civil society after being implemented in all schools on the island ».
The country aspires to become a cyber hub, and combating online threats is essential to achieving this goal. Avinash Ramtohul also spoke about existing cybercrime laws, reminding that every user must remain vigilant when surfing the web. An informative video was presented during this campaign, marking an important step towards creating a safer internet for the Mauritian population.
