Award ceremony for schools and environmental advocates
Students who have demonstrated their passion for promoting sustainable development in their schools and communities are honored. Their efforts and commitments were rewarded on Friday, February 23, 2024, during the Eco-School Awards ceremony at the Coral Strand Hotel.
Schools in the Seychelles are also rewarded for their achievements in 2023 and individuals who have supported the program for many years. Schools receive their awards based on their specific level, from level 1 to level 3, determined by their overall scores in national competitions and activities, Eco-School achievements, and judge visits.
Baie St Anne School won the award for the most outstanding Eco-School in the primary category after demonstrating its comprehensive approach to implementing the program in and out of the classroom. The school also focuses on projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The school qualifies for an educational trip to Aldabra, among other prizes. Beau Vallon Primary School received the second prize, while the International School of Seychelles obtained the third place, scoring over 300 points and excelling in all aspects of the program.
As for the secondary school category, Mont Fleuri emerges as the most remarkable, followed by Persévérance and the Independent School, respectively, in second and third place. The six remarkable headteachers are rewarded for their efforts, one per region. This particular category of rewards aims to encourage teachers for their hard work and dedication to their respective school’s ecological programs.
