Support for businesses after the Garance storm

102 million EUR reconstruction plan

Following the passage of Hurricane Garance, the Réunion Region is activating the European RESTORE regulation to support the island’s reconstruction.

At its last standing committee meeting, the Region approved funding of €102 million under the ERDF (ESF+) 2021-2027 program to address urgent post-disaster needs.

A portion of this amount – 30 million EUR – has been allocated to the rehabilitation of the road network, a particularly hard-hit sector. Initial estimates put the total cost of restoring damaged road infrastructure at 72.5 million EUR.

In addition to the rehabilitation work, the Region has also taken measures to support local businesses hit hard by the storm. A budget of 2 million EUR has been allocated for exceptional cash assistance, up to 5,000 EUR.

This aid is targeted at businesses with fewer than ten employees, as well as those with fewer than 50 employees operating in the tourism and agri-food sectors. Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2025, and the Services and Payment Agency (ASP) will manage the applications for a rapid response.

Ces actions visent à relancer rapidement l’économie locale, à rétablir les infrastructures essentielles et à soutenir les acteurs économiques, pour aider l’île à se relever après cette catastrophe naturelle.
