European market: ILO supports access for Malagasy SMEs

A New Export Strategy

On April 3, 2025, at Ibis Akorondrano, the International Labor Organization (ILO) is holding an advocacy session to discuss the importance of cooperation between Madagascar, Kenya, and France.

This collaboration aims to help Malagasy cooperatives and SMEs more easily access international markets, particularly in Europe. Frédéric Muia, ILO representative, explained that to make Malagasy products globally competitive, it is essential to properly structure local production chains. He also emphasized that cooperatives and SMEs must be supported to comply with international standards, which is essential for conquering foreign markets.

The Minister of Labor, Hanitra Razakaboana, emphasized the need to build the capacity of Malagasy agricultural cooperatives to facilitate their access to the European market. The Minister added that this access must be achieved while respecting quality standards and guaranteeing decent jobs for workers. A recent decree on the operation of cooperative societies was introduced to help further structure these businesses and prepare them for the demands of global markets.
