Diplomatic meetings and evaluation of government projects
On March 5, 2024, Victoria Kwakwa, the vice president of the World Bank for East and Southern Africa, made her first visit to Moroni. Her four-day visit includes a series of meetings with the Union of Comoros’s government representatives, partners, and economic stakeholders.
This visit by the World Bank is part of its ongoing commitment to support the initiatives of the nation of Comoros, particularly during this period of structural and economic reforms. Madame Kwakwa plans discussions with senior dignitaries, including President Azali Assoumani and Finance Minister Mze Abdou Mohamed Chanfiou.
Meetings with local development partners, private sector actors, women, and youth are also on the agenda. Discussions will focus on the challenges and opportunities related to the economic development of Comoros as well as the empowerment of women.
Vice President Victoria Kwakwa also plans to review government projects funded by the World Bank, specifically El Maarouf Hospital and Bangoma Port. This initiative aims to assess the effectiveness of investments and the project’s impact on the local population. If necessary, adjustments will be made to development strategies.
