Boosting bilateral relations
Japanese investors are showing interest in various industries, a topic discussed during a meeting between the Minister of Industrialization and Commerce, David Ralambofiringa, and Japan’s Ambassador, Abe Koji, in Ambohidahy.
The diplomat mentioned that certain industries are particularly attractive to Japanese investors, including Ambanja cocoa, a premium product that has contributed to the reputation of the island nation. Abe Koji stated that this industry has the potential to become a major player in the Japanese market, particularly in the form of essential oils. David Ralambofiringa rightly focused on the potential of this sector within the agri-food industry, as it could support efforts toward achieving food self-sufficiency.
Since last year, Abe Koji has expressed Japan’s interest in the cocoa industry. He reiterated this interest and also emphasized his desire to collaborate with Madagascar to attract more investors to the island. In addition, a meeting was held with Ishak Ebrar Çubukçu, Turkey’s Ambassador to Madagascar, where both parties discussed the importance of mutual trust to ensure successful cooperation. According to the Minister of Industrialization, opening up to cooperation with countries like Turkey is crucial to boosting the country’s development. The Turkish Ambassador, on his part, emphasized that Turkish business operators need assurance about the business climate.
According to the ministry’s statement, the Turkish Ambassador presented promising avenues for strengthening bilateral partnerships between the two countries. The Minister proposed the creation of a joint economic commission responsible for defining areas of intervention and establishing a partnership agreement. He also stressed the importance of a free trade agreement. Turkey’s expertise includes trade development and infrastructure, which could be vital to enhancing collaboration.
