Russian support for Seychellois athletes

Seychelles is set to receive increased sports support from Russia following discussions between Minister Marie-Céline Zialor of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Family and her Russian counterpart, Oleg Matytsin.

Russia has expressed its willingness to assist in the preparation for the Beach Soccer World Cup, scheduled to take place in Seychelles in 2025. This assistance encompasses technical support for infrastructure development and training for Seychelles’ national beach soccer team.

Minister Zialor, who was on a mission abroad in Kazan, Russia, to attend the Youth Games, also conveyed her gratitude and appreciation for Russia’s ongoing support in sports through the Seychelles embassy and Ambassador Artem Kozhin.

The existing collaboration with Rostov is highlighted as robust cooperation in boxing, yielding significant benefits for Seychellois boxers, with Seychelles expressing its desire to continue this collaboration. In addition to the meeting with Minister Matytsin, the Seychellois representative also visited several sports facilities in Kazan, Russia’s sports capital. These included the Water Sports Palace and the Kazan Tennis Academy in the Volga region.

The Seychelles envoy also engaged in other bilateral discussions concerning potential exchange and training programs for students from sports universities in Kazan and Moscow. Furthermore, she expressed hope for developing sports tourism, Seychelles’ participation in upcoming events in Russia, and support for scientific research in sports, particularly for individuals with disabilities.

Minister Zialor also met with Rinat Nailevich, Minister of Youth of the Republic of Tatarstan, to discuss youth development programs, particularly in the arts sector.
