Illegal fishing is a major issue for both countries
Next week, Seychelles will pay tribute to the Sri Lankan High Commissioner, who has served the island nation for the past three decades.
In April 2021, Srimal Wickremasinghe received his accreditation in Seychelles and had a farewell meeting with President Wavel Ramkalawan at the State House. The diplomat informed the media that the meeting with the President was extremely beneficial. They discussed past actions and what could happen in the future, particularly the transfer of several teachers from Sri Lanka to Seychelles.
« I would like to express my gratitude to the Seychellois authorities for their support to Sri Lankans who were victims of pirate attacks earlier this year, and I sincerely wish to thank everyone for that », said Wickremasinghe. He emphasized that, after three years, much has been done, highlighting that the creation of the engineering council will benefit all professionals in the sector in Seychelles.
Illegal fishing is a major issue for Seychelles and Sri Lanka. He commends Seychelles’ efforts to find a solution to this problem. Wickremasinghe is a former Deputy Head of the Sri Lankan mission in Austria and Deputy Permanent Representative of the country to the United Nations. He also served as Secretary-General for the alumni of the International Olympic Academy in Ancient Olympia, Greece.
