Partnership agreement between the AFOA countries and the EU

13rd round of talks in Moroni

The 13th round of negotiations aimed at forging a sustainable economic partnership agreement between the countries of Eastern and Southern Africa (AFOA) and the European Union (EU) is scheduled to take place in Moroni, the capital of the Comoros, from March 18 to 22, 2024.

More than seventy senior officials and dignitaries are anticipated to participate in the meeting, including representatives from five AFOA member countries: Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Zimbabwe. Delegates from the European Commission are also slated to be in attendance.

These negotiations hold significant importance for the economic trajectory of Eastern and Southern Africa. The strategic value of this partnership lies in its alignment with the ambitious objectives of the new Africa-Europe Alliance for sustainable investment and employment. A primary goal is to take a decisive stride towards establishing the first modern, comprehensive free trade agreement between the European Union and the nations of sub-Saharan Africa.
