Mauritius – South Africa : Promoting Gender Equality

Promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment in Mauritius

Discussions were held in Port Louis regarding the prospects of cooperation between the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare and the South African High Commission. The goal is to create opportunities for progress and address shared regional challenges.

During her courtesy visit to her office, Minister Arianne Navarre-Marie had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Hlamalani Nelly Manzini, the South African High Commissioner to Mauritius. She discussed the possibility of collaborating with the South African High Commission to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in Mauritius.

The Minister also sought the support of the South African High Commission for protecting children’s rights and improving family protection policies. She emphasized the need to leverage the expertise of national child protection systems in South Africa and Mauritius and share experiences and lessons learned from family support programs to ensure that both nations strengthen their respective social protection systems.

This cooperation is realized through joint actions such as advocacy and awareness campaigns. In particular, the exchange of best practices, skills development, and training of government officials are essential to enhance their ability to address related issues effectively.
