Mauritius – Iran : Perspectives on Trade Relations

Strengthening collaborations in strategic sectors

Hassan Ali Bakhshi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Madagascar and Non-Resident Ambassador for Mauritius, Comoros, and Seychelles, met with Shakeel Mohamed, Minister of Lands and Housing. Discussions focused on ongoing cooperation projects between Mauritius and Iran.

During this meeting, Ambassador Bakhshi provided an overview of progress in various areas of collaboration. He emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships in key sectors such as housing, education, health, agriculture, and fisheries. As his term came to an end, he expressed satisfaction with the progress made and the solidified bilateral relations between the two countries.

Trade relations between Mauritius and Iran are still in the development phase. The signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2023 demonstrates the mutual desire to boost economic ties. Among the main Mauritian exports to Iran are clothing and accessories (23.5 %), food products (20.3 %), cane sugar (17.3 %), and fabrics and manufactured items (7.8 %).

The Ambassador also highlighted the mutual benefits of sharing expertise and experiences. He expressed hope for further strengthening of this cooperation in the coming years.
