Mauritius at the heart of the US-Africa Summit

A bilateral agreement in sight

During the 17th US-Africa Economic Summit, scheduled for June 2025 in Angola, Mauritius could be offered a unique opportunity to sign a bilateral agreement with the United States.

This forum could mark a turning point in economic relations between the two nations, as was the case for several African countries during the previous meeting, which took place in Dallas, USA.

Jean Raymond Boulle, an internationally renowned Mauritian businessman, expressed his support for this initiative in an interview with the Mauritian press on March 13, 2025. Boulle, known for his businesses in the nickel, cobalt, copper, and diamond sectors, emphasized the importance for Mauritius to seize this opportunity. « The signing of such an agreement is entirely feasible ». « We must do everything we can to achieve this », he said, hoping that the Mauritian government will be well represented in Luanda.

The 2024 event in Dallas saw the signing of several bilateral agreements between the United States and African countries, strengthening trade and diplomatic ties. For Mauritius, participating in this forum would be an opportunity to build bridges with the new American administration, according to this entrepreneur. This summit will bring together government leaders, business leaders, and investors from both continents and will focus on key sectors such as energy, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology.

This business leader, vice president of the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), is a key player in organizing the summit. Thus, he plays a vital role in promoting American interests in Africa, particularly by supporting economic policies aimed at strengthening mutual prosperity.
