Tourism Sector at the Heart of Cooperation
On February 11, 2025, India and Madagascar took a significant step forward in their economic cooperation during an event organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Economic Development Board of Madagascar (EDBM) at the Radisson Blu Hotel.
This gathering unveiled mutual investment opportunities, paving the way for new collaborations between the two nations. In his speech, Madagascar’s Minister of Transport, Valery Ramonjavelo, praised the role of the CII in India’s economic development. He highlighted its importance for regional growth while emphasizing strategic sectors where investments are anticipated in Madagascar. Transportation and energy infrastructure are among these key areas. Moreover, the expertise of Indian companies in renewable energy production is essential to meet the needs of these sectors.
The EDBM positions itself as a crucial player in attracting foreign investors. By streamlining administrative procedures, it facilitates the alignment of national priorities with investment projects. The Minister also underscored the Great Island’s ambition to attract one million tourists by 2028. To achieve this, cooperation with India in the tourism sector is essential. Modernizing air infrastructure, notably welcoming Air India flights, constitutes a major strategic focus.
Technological cooperation is a fundamental pillar for the island’s economic development. Partnerships in the telecommunications sector help strengthen the local economy. Thus, the two countries continue on a path of mutual growth. In August 2025, during the India-Africa Business Conclave, another key event will further deepen economic relations between India and Africa.
