Letters of credence from the new high commissioner of Pakistan

Strengthening diplomatic relations

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade, the Honorable Maneesh Gobin, welcomed His Excellency Syed Zahid Raza, the new High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Republic of Mauritius.

Raza officially assumed his role as the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Mauritius after presenting his letters of credence to the President of the Republic, His Excellency Prithvirajsingh Roopun. He succeeds His Excellency Mr. Arshad Jan Pathan, who completed his term on August 5, 2024.

High Commissioner Raza reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the long-standing diplomatic relations between Mauritius and Pakistan. He aims to facilitate high-level visits by the heads of state from both countries to reinvigorate diplomatic ties. Minister Gobin discussed a range of cooperation topics with High Commissioner Raza, including trade, investment, culture, maritime security, higher education, technical assistance, and healthcare.

Both dignitaries agreed on the importance of enhancing bilateral trade exchanges under the existing bilateral preferential trade agreement, emphasizing the need to overcome barriers that hinder commercial activities. Healthcare was recognizedas a critical area of bilateral cooperation, with discussions focusing on potential partnerships in the pharmaceutical sector and the possibility of highly qualified Pakistani doctors coming to Mauritius to perform advanced treatments and surgeries.
