A diplomatic visit to strengthen ties

On March 27, 2025, Ram Madhav, Chairman of the India Foundation and former General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, met with Dr. Mahend Gungapersad, Minister of Education and Human Resources of Mauritius.

Accompanied by Vimarsh Aryan, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Mauritius, Madhav praised the island’s hospitality and the depth of ties between the two nations. At the heart of the meeting, Madhav expressed his gratitude to Dr. Gungapersad for his recent participation in the Kumbh Mela, one of the largest spiritual gatherings in the world, in India.

This visit provided an opportunity for the Minister to deliver a memorable speech on the historical and cultural ties between the peoples of India and Mauritius, reinforcing the idea that cooperation extends far beyond formal diplomatic relations. “This relationship is much more than just government-to-government collaboration. It is about human interconnectedness, the exchange of ideas, and joint projects,” said Ram Madhav. He highlighted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Mauritius, emphasizing the importance of a partnership that spans multiple sectors, including education, culture, and sustainable development.

For his part, Dr. Gungapersad expressed his gratitude to the Indian Government for its unwavering support to Mauritius. The doctor also highlighted the joint initiatives between the two countries aimed at promoting a sustainable future for the Indian Ocean region.
