India-Mauritius : Jaishankar Subrahmanyam in Mauritius on July 16 and 17

Strengthening diplomatic ties between the two countries

India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Jaishankar Subrahmanyam, embarks on an official visit to Mauritius on July 16 and 17. Known as a distinguished diplomat in India, he is expected to have a packed itinerary before returning to the mainland.

On July 16, the virtual inauguration ceremony for 12 major community projects in the country will be held at the Receptorium of the National Assembly. Additionally, India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Jaishankar Subrahmanyam, will present the first two Overseas Citizen of India Cards to two Mauritians. These individuals belong to the 7th generation of Indian descendants who have chosen to settle in Mauritius.

Previously, eligibility for the Overseas Citizen of India card was limited to those not beyond the 6th generation. This expansion was announced by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, during her visit to Mauritius last March. During his visit, the Indian Minister will also tour the Civil Service College and participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Sir Anerood Jugnauth’s Samadhi in Pamplemousses.
