Modernizing Customs Procedures
The government will ensure that Mauritius Customs achieves a respectable ranking in the World Bank Logistics Performance Index (WBLPI). This statement was made by the Minister of State for Finance, Dhaneshwar Damry, on Monday, January 27, during the celebrations of International Customs Day 2025 at the Integrated Customs Clearance Centre (ICCC) in Plaine-Magnien.
Sudhamo Lal, Director General of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), and Vivekanand Ramburun, Director of Customs at the MRA, were also present. On this occasion, four new MRA projects were launched: the digital certificate of origin, mobile customs payment, the electronic pricing platform, and the public email interface.
Dhaneshwar Damry praised the MRA’s initiative to modernize customs procedures. He emphasized the government’s priority on digitization and human capital development as key drivers of economic growth. According to the WBLPI report, Mauritius Customs ranks 90th among 139 nations. The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to positioning Mauritius at the forefront of digital transformation, in line with the theme of World Customs Day 2025: « Customs Engagement for Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity ».
The Minister also highlighted the crucial role of customs in the fight against drug trafficking. He assured customs officers of the government’s commitment to restoring institutional independence and integrity while upholding the rule of law and respecting constitutional rights. He encouraged them to fully embrace digitization to enhance efficiency, security, transparency, and innovation.
