Seeking reliable and credible partners
The President of the Republic, as part of his economic diplomacy, aims to attract Chinese investors. Madagascar is targeting collaboration in key sectors such as industry, agriculture, tourism, energy, and mining.
According to Andry Rajoelina, Madagascar is seeking reliable and credible partners for its economic transformation. The country is looking for investors who are committed to a mutually beneficial partnership, adhering to both the letter and spirit of respect and cooperation. These values are highlighted in the draft joint declaration of the 9th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
The President believes that China and major Chinese companies can be dependable and credible partners. Andry Rajoelina formally invites them to visit Madagascar. The initial steps would involve a high-level conference followed by a roundtable on economic cooperation between Madagascar and China. The President outlines the goal of economic transformation in Madagascar, emphasizing the challenges of industrialization and the development of key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, mining, tourism, and international trade.
Regarding trade exchanges, Andry Rajoelina notes that 98 % of products exported to China currently benefit from zero customs duties. This significant advancement has led to an increase in exports to the Chinese market. However, to fully capitalize on this opportunity, local production must be stimulated. He emphasizes that the state’s goal is not only to produce and process locally for domestic needs but also to boost exports.
