The role of youth in marine resource management highlighted in Madagascar
For four days, the city of Toliara is hosting the second edition of the African Youth Forum on the Blue Economy.
Young people from several African countries are participating in this event focused on marine resources. This year’s theme, “Sustainable Blue Economy: Ownership, Innovation, and Performance for Africa’s Renaissance,” emphasizes responsible management of the seas and oceans. The discussions aim to strengthen the role of youth in sustainable development initiatives.
Viviane Dewa, Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, emphasizes the contribution of tourism and handicrafts to the blue economy. These sectors support local economies and showcase traditional coastal know-how. Mahatante Paubert, Minister of Fisheries and the Blue Economy, and Roland Kobia, Ambassador of the European Union, also participate in the discussions.
The forum features practical workshops, experience sharing, and field visits. These opportunities allow young people to present new ideas, build networks, and collectively devise concrete solutions for the development of the maritime sector in Africa.
“Toliara, a coastal city in southern Madagascar, provides an ideal setting to host this meeting,” said the Minister of Fisheries. Through this initiative, the organizers aim to encourage engaged youth who are driven by innovation and committed to building a future connected to the sea.
