Vanilla Sector : Strengthened Market Control

Raising awareness on product processing

A market inspection is being organized by the Ministry of Industrialization and Commerce to ensure the quality of Malagasy vanilla.

Minister David Ralambofiringa held a meeting in Sambava with the Governor of the Sava region, Teddy Gervais Seramila, to discuss this initiative. The goal is to track each product to minimize theft as much as possible.

« We are responsible for ensuring the traceability and quality of vanilla products », said Minister David Ralambofiringa. He emphasized the need for collaboration with all ministries and regional directorates involved in the vanilla sector in this region. Although vanilla theft has decreased recently, this does not justify lowering vigilance. It is crucial to remain alert, especially since vanilla is Madagascar’s leading export product. The Sava region, also known as the « Vanilla Triangle », is the largest vanilla-growing area in the world.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of raising awareness and providing training on product processing. After meeting with the regional governor, he also held discussions with importers, which allowed him to closely observe their operations, the quality of the prepared vanilla, and the challenges they faced to find appropriate solutions.
