Inauguration of the BVCA-FALCON center in Mauritius

A new era for Mauritian agriculture

On March 24, 2025, the Minister of Agro-Industry, Arvin Boolell, inaugurated the foundation stone of the Beijing Vocational Training of Agriculture (BVCA)-Mauritius FALCON Association Overseas Technical Training Centre in Terre-Rouge.

This initiative, the result of a collaboration between the BVCA and FALCON Mauritius, aims to strengthen the technical skills of Mauritian farmers and promote innovation in the agricultural sector.

The center’s goal is to foster the sharing of knowledge and technical expertise among local farmers. As part of this partnership, several training sessions were provided to farmers in 2024, including training on traditional techniques such as pottery and « ollas », an efficient irrigation system. Certificates were awarded to the women who completed these training sessions, recognizing their contribution to sustainable agriculture.

During the ceremony, Arvin Boolell emphasized the need to invest in research and development to improve agricultural productivity and address growing climate challenges. He also highlighted the importance of food self-sufficiency for the country and encouraged Mauritians to produce what they consume.

The Minister welcomed the collaboration between the two entities in the creation of this training center, which, he said, represents an important step towards sustainability and innovation in agriculture. The facility will help prepare the local farming community for the challenges of tomorrow.
