Increasing incomes and boosting productivity among young people
After a decade of dedication and transformation, the vocational training and agricultural productivity improvement program (Formaprod) has concluded its operations. Throughout its duration, Formaprod successfully trained over 105,000 young individuals, equipping them with the skills needed to excel in agricultural production careers.
Formaprod, established under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Minae) and funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (Fida), marks a significant milestone in Madagascar’s agricultural and rural training (FAR) sector. At its official closure, Hary Lala Rakotonaivo, the national coordinator, expressed pride in Formaprod’s achievements.
The primary goal of Formaprod was to enhance the income and productivity of young people, particularly women, entering agriculture. « The program promotes apprenticeships for farmers, with a special emphasis on women and youth », stated Suzelin Ratohiarijaona, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock.
Over the past decade, Formaprod has successfully trained 105,630 young rural individuals, surpassing its initial target of 100,000 trainees, with nearly 50% being women. These efforts have contributed significantly to advancing gender equality and empowering women economically and socially through job creation and active community participation.
