Regional economy: Tunisia joins ATIDI

ATIDI (the African Trade Guarantee Agency) represents a significant milestone for Tunisia in the development of its economy in Africa. Its successful implementation took place on Monday, March 24, 2025, during the official ceremony of Tunisian economic stakeholders on the continent.

Collaboration for sustainable economic development

As part of its economic responsibilities through various initiatives, Tunisia prioritizes economic expansion in the commercial, political, financial, and energy sectors. However, the country faces obstacles in achieving this goal. Tunisia nevertheless appears to have resolved the problem by joining ATIDI.

Thanks to this integration, the country has the opportunity to access a system that benefits the continent. This mechanism is based on securing its exports to Africa by facilitating insurance against commercial and political risks. It also serves to attract investors by offering risk protection mechanisms. Furthermore, it promotes access to international financing under favorable conditions.

ATIDI to boost the Tunisian energy sector

With ATIDI, Tunisia will be able to quickly access financial support for its renewable energy project. Indeed, the country has entered into an agreement to benefit from the Rapid Liquidity Support Facility (RLSF), a system financially supported by the German public bank KfW.

The financial support of this entity will focus on:

  • Supporting private producers of green electricity
  • Reducing financing costs for renewable energy projects
  • Accelerating the energy transformation in line with the national strategy

ATIDI: Missions and Prerogatives

Founded in 2000, ATIDI plays a crucial role in intra-African trade. The agency has financial autonomy worth several billion dollars. As well as a network spanning major African economies and strategic collaborations with institutions such as the AfDB.

Tunisia’s integration into ATIDI is a significant step forward that opens the door to new opportunities for the country. By committing to this alliance, Tunisia demonstrates its commitment to positioning itself as an economic leader in North Africa. With the right support and a clear vision, the country can turn these challenges into opportunities and build a prosperous future for its citizens.

In short, membership in ATIDI could well be the catalyst Tunisia needs to realize its potential as a technology hub, thus stimulating economic growth and social development in the years to come. With the integration of Tunisia, a country located in the North African region, ATIDI has expanded its membership from 24 to 25. This membership now allows Tunisia to conduct its activities on the African continent with a guarantee for its development.
