For the third time, the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games organizing committee has partnered with the French Development Agency (AFD) to provide funding to seven African countries as part of its Impact 2024 International initiative.

Impact 2024 international : Several African countries submit support projects

320,821 EUR has been allocated to 10 projects from 202 submissions, focusing on gender equality, education, health, and the inclusion of persons with disabilities. The Selection Committee comprised representatives from Paris 2024, AFD, and experts from organizations such as La Guilde, Sport en Commun, the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Plan International, Play International, Decathlon Foundation, and Société Générale Foundation.

African nations benefit from budgetary support

In June 2023, the selection committee convened to decide on winning projects for the call for proposals. The selected beneficiaries include Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Morocco, Uganda, Senegal, and Togo :

  • Kenya secured two projects, one focusing on constructing new fields and the other promoting women’s boxing.
  • Senegal’s three projects encompass social integration through rugby and sports promotion among youth in Dialaw, contributing to environmental education and local development through Olympism.
  • Cameroon will implement a socio-sporting project for youth in Edéa.
  • Côte d’Ivoire approved a sports initiative catering to the visually impaired.
  • Morocco emphasizes gender equality and youth development in rugby.
  • Togo’s initiative targets basketball development.
  • Uganda’s project aims to combat teenage pregnancies in the Kasese district through sports.

Immersing in the 2024 Olympics in Paris with an African flavor

Throughout the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Île-Saint-Denis in the Seine-Saint-Denis department will resonate with the vibrant rhythms of Africa.
