Six protocols signed to strengthen Mauritius-Reunion cooperation

Sustainable Development and Innovation at the Heart of Priorities

On Friday, April 25, 2025, six protocols were signed during the second meeting of the Mauritius-Réunion Joint Commission, held at the Sir Harilal Vaghjee Memorial Hall in Port Louis.

These commitments cover key areas such as biodiversity, climate change, cultural exchanges, and technology transfer. The new agreements aim to strengthen cooperation in several key sectors. Initiatives include projects to improve natural resource management, preserve regional biodiversity, and strengthen collaboration between the meteorological services of the two islands. Other areas such as renewable energy, public health, and education are also covered.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius, Ritesh Ramful, emphasized the importance of this commission, established following a framework agreement signed in 2011. According to him, these commitments mark a key step in addressing the environmental and social challenges shared by both territories. A schedule of activities was also established for the implementation of the projects.

The meeting, co-chaired by Ritesh Ramful and Jérôme Filippini, Prefect of Réunion, laid the foundations for strengthened cooperation for the period 2025-2030.
