A busy schedule before Madagascar
President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Réunion Island on Monday, April 21st at 10 p.m. at Roland Garros Airport for an intense and strategic official visit.
Accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, as well as several Ministers, including Annie Genevard (Agriculture), Manuel Valls (Overseas), and Yannick Neuder (Health), the Head of State devoted the entire day of Tuesday, April 22nd to the island’s major challenges before flying to Madagascar on Wednesday, April 23rd.
This stop in Réunion comes just after a trip to Mayotte. The President intends to strengthen France’s role in the Indian Ocean while addressing economic, health, agricultural, and environmental challenges.
The President’s day begins at 9 a.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial. This will be followed by a discussion with farmers on food sovereignty, before visiting the Bois-Rouge sugar refinery in Saint-André.
The afternoon is devoted to a presentation on the fight against mosquitoes that carry chikungunya, led by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) and the adapted military service. This is followed by a meeting with business leaders at the Royal Bourbon factory, a gathering focused on the challenges of the agri-food industry.
Finally, at the end of the day, the meeting will take place at the prefecture for a meeting with representatives of local authorities, punctuated by a collective decoration ceremony.
Macron will leave the island on Wednesday morning for Madagascar, where he will participate in the 5th Summit of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).
