Emmanuel Macron announces an investment of 3.2 billion euros

A reconstruction plan for economic and social recovery

On April 21, 2025, President Emmanuel Macron presented a reconstruction plan for Mayotte, worth 3.2 billion EUR, for a six-year period, from 2025 to 2031.

This initiative follows the devastation caused by Cyclone Chido, which struck the island four months earlier, causing dozens of casualties and damage estimated at 3.5 billion EUR.

The reconstruction plan aims to rebuild essential infrastructure, including water, electricity, and telecommunications, some of which has already been restored. Funding will come from national, European, and international donors. The French President emphasized that this project would be regularly reassessed to ensure its effectiveness.

The President also announced the presentation of a bill aimed at improving the island’s economic situation. In particular, by supporting agriculture and fishing, and attracting more businesses through tax incentives.

At the same time, the fight against illegal immigration, insecurity, and substandard housing will be strengthened. More than 100,000 residents currently live in precarious conditions.

Despite progress in some areas, Emmanuel Macron acknowledges that the situation remains difficult and that the people of Mayotte are waiting for concrete results.
