TerraPay, the fintech company specializing in money transfers, has appointed Ababacar Deme as Director for West and Central Africa. This appointment comes as TerraPay, having raised nearly USD 100 million last year, seeks to strengthen its position in these high-potential regions. Deme’s scope will cover a broad territory from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Senegal, including key markets such as Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Nigeria, and Ghana.
Bringing a wealth of experience, the new Director joins TerraPay after holding senior positions at prestigious companies such as InTouch, Mastercard, and Wari. Before joining TerraPay in March, Ababacar Deme led the Nigeria, Morocco, and Egypt markets at InTouch, where he helped process over EUR 3 billion in transactions in 2024. His expertise allows him to deeply understand the local dynamics and specific challenges of the region.
The new leader will have to address obstacles such as regulatory complexity and a lack of interoperability, while exploiting the low rate of banking to promote the adoption of TerraPay solutions.
