A conference to combat educational dropout
A conference brought together education stakeholders from Reunion Island in Saint-Denis and Saint-Louis to discuss solutions to address early school dropout.
The main objective was to consider how to prevent this phenomenon at the first signs of difficulty. One of the key points of the meeting was the importance of quickly identifying struggling students. By acting as soon as signs of demotivation or declining performance appear, it is possible to intervene before dropout becomes a reality. To this end, support programs and individualized follow-up are being considered.
This meeting also served as an opportunity to highlight the importance of collaboration between all local stakeholders: teachers, associations, institutions, and families. Everyone must play a role in providing an appropriate response to students.
At the end of these three days of discussions, the prefecture, the academy and the Réunion region announced the creation of a Réunion committee for academic perseverance by June 2025. This committee will be responsible for coordinating local actions and implementing effective solutions to prevent school dropouts.
