The IOC is preparing the next Summit in Madagascar

A turning point in regional cooperation after 41 years

41 years after the signing of the Victoria Agreement in January 1984, the 39th Ordinary Session of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) was held on April 16, 2025, in Mahé.

The President of the Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, welcomed the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and their Delegates from the five IOC Member States: Comoros, Mauritius, Madagascar, Réunion/France, and Seychelles.

In his speech, the Head of State expressed his gratitude to the participants, emphasizing that this meeting strengthened the relations of brotherhood and cooperation between the nations of the region. The President also emphasized the importance of this session for the stability and development of the Indian Ocean.

The discussions addressed key regional issues, including maritime security, combating climate change, agriculture, and promoting trade and connectivity among member states. These exchanges will help strengthen economic resilience to address current global challenges.

This session marked the transition of the IOC Chairmanship from Seychelles to the Comoros, under the leadership of Minister Sylvestre Radegonde, symbolizing the continuity of regional cooperation.
