A European Initiative for Maritime Security in the Indian Ocean
From April 7 to 11, 2025, Comorian and Malagasy officials took part in an intensive five-day training course on Port State Control (PSC), held in Ndzuani, Comoros.
This event marks a key milestone in regional cooperation in maritime security. The closing ceremony, which took place at the end of the training session, was attended by several high-profile figures, including representatives from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Société Comorienne des Ports (SCO), and the Maritime and Fluviale Authority of Madagascar.
The program included field visits to the port of Mutsamudu, where participants were able to conduct onboard inspections. These two practical days provided professionals with essential skills to ensure maritime safety and vessel security in the region. Hanitra Nirina Andriantsoa, IMO representative for Madagascar and the Comoros, expressed her satisfaction with the training’s results, highlighting its strategic role in strengthening maritime security. Mohamed Saïd Salim Dahalani, Director General of ANAM, emphasized that this initiative represents a decisive step in developing the skills of the Comorian naval sector.
This training was funded by the European Union, as part of the “Port Security and Navigation Safety for Eastern and Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean” project, in partnership with the IMO and ANAM.
