France Taxes 2025: Tax Returns Begin This Thursday

This Thursday, April 10, taxpayers can log in to the tax portal to declare their income for 2024. Taxpayers can log in to their personal space on the tax portal to file their income tax return.

What is the tax return schedule for 2025?

Online filing is required if your residence has an internet connection. Every French tax resident is required to declare their income, even if they have low or no income.

Although the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP) has not yet confirmed this information, the Solidaires Finances Publiques union reports that the deadline for submitting online tax returns is as follows:

  • May 22 for departments 1 (Ain) to 19 (Corrèze),
  • May 28 for departments 20 (Corsica) to 54 (Meurthe-et-Moselle),
  • June 5 for departments 55 (Meuse) to 974 (Réunion) and 976 (Mayotte)

Paper returns must be filed by May 20 at the latest, also for non-residents.

Income tax brackets increased by 1.8%

Income tax brackets have been adjusted by 1.8% this year in response to inflation. This routine reassessment aims to prevent certain taxpayers whose income or salaries have increased due to inflation in France from falling under the tax burden.

This progressive tax system, used to determine the tax amount for each household, includes different brackets with tax rates ranging from 0% for incomes up to 11,497 EUR to 45% for incomes exceeding 180,294 EUR. According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, this initiative prevents 619,000 taxpayers from falling under the tax burden.

10 million households should benefit from automatic declaration

Since 2020, approximately 11 million households have been eligible for automatic declaration. This concerns taxpayers whose situation has not changed from one year to the next, and for whom the data pre-filled by the tax authorities in the declaration is therefore accurate and complete.

For these individuals, it is not necessary to confirm the declaration online or submit it on paper. The absence of a response is considered validation. However, it is strongly recommended to check the accuracy of the information already provided.

An email from the tax administration must inform households of the automatic declaration.
