GSMA: Ralph Mupita appointed vice PCA

The GSMA, the global association of mobile operators, announces the appointment of Ralph Mupita, President and CEO of MTN Group, as Deputy Chairman of its Board. This appointment, effective immediately, will run until the end of the current Board term, scheduled for the end of 2026.

Ralph Mupita is an experienced executive with a strong career in the financial and technology sectors. After studying civil engineering and earning an MBA from the University of Cape Town, he worked for companies including Old Mutual before joining MTN in 2017 as Chief Financial Officer. In 2020, he took the helm of MTN Group as CEO. Under his leadership, MTN has experienced significant growth and strengthened its financial position, particularly in Africa, where the company plays a key role in connectivity and digital transformation.

In his new role at the GSMA, Mupita will help guide the association’s strategy at a key time in the evolution of the mobile industry, particularly in Africa. The new Vice Chairman expresses his enthusiasm for supporting the association and playing an active role in the global digital transformation, with a particular focus on the African continent.
