Ecotourism and education: The priorities of the Governor of Ngazidja

A New Vision for Local Development

On March 27, 2025, the Governor of Ngazidja, Mohamed Ibrahim, met with the island’s newly elected mayors at the Mrodju Palace.

This initial meeting allowed the elected officials to familiarize themselves with the governor’s office and administrative staff, as part of the implementation of their mandates for the 2025-2030 period.

During this meeting, the Governor outlined his vision for revitalizing local communities, highlighting two strategic priorities: sustainable ecotourism in rural areas and strengthening basic education. These initiatives have the potential to stimulate youth employment, promote local development, and improve the quality of life for the residents of Ngazidja. Mohamed Ibrahim also emphasized the importance of strengthening the skills of local stakeholders to ensure the success of municipal projects.

With this in mind, a team dedicated to the development of decentralized cooperation has been established, actively working to strengthen ties between local municipalities and their international counterparts. The authority emphasized that these efforts require close collaboration with mayors, with a view to stimulating socio-economic activities beneficial to the entire Comorian community.

For the Mayor of Mitsamihuli ya Mbwani, Chamsoudine Soule, this meeting demonstrates the governorate’s commitment to supporting mayors in their missions.
