Better-maintained vehicles for a less polluted capital
In Antananarivo, the air is increasingly saturated with automobile pollution. To address this, the government and private companies are joining forces in an unprecedented initiative.
This initiative, led by the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, aims to raise awareness of the dangers of exhaust fumes resulting from poor maintenance. According to a ministry official, « the originality of this initiative lies in the special marking of well-maintained vehicles, displaying reduced smoke emissions. It’s an incentive to recognize good behavior and motivate drivers to take care of their engines ».
Eventually, this campaign will be extended nationwide to limit air pollution and its impact on public health and the environment.
At the same time, the private sector is mobilizing to make car maintenance more accessible. Mecamobil, a company specializing in mobile maintenance, is revolutionizing the field by offering in-home service. « We guarantee total transparency, no overcharging, no hidden fees. Every intervention is carried out under the owner’s supervision », stated a company representative at a press conference on March 20.
With these combined efforts, Madagascar is embarking on a necessary ecological shift to preserve air quality and public health.
