350 million USD to accelerate the project
The Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) reinforces its commitment to Madagascar. In particular, by financing the second phase of the motorway project linking Antananarivo to Toamasina.
Announced on February 12, 2025, this funding is part of the BADEA’s strategy to support Madagascar’s infrastructure. Estimated at between 250 and 350 million USD, this financing reflects the financial institution’s desire to support Madagascar in its economic transformation.
At a meeting on the sidelines of the 2025 World Government Summit in Dubai, Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina and BADEA President Sidi Ould Tah are reinforcing this cooperation. Sidi Ould Tah hails the structuring impact of the 260-kilometer highway, highlighting its potential to revolutionize the national transportation network and boost trade.
In addition to this project, the bank aims to broaden its support to the hydroelectricity and solar energy sectors, thus responding to the country’s energy challenges. This diversification of investment marks a key step in their bilateral partnership and paves the way for further modernization of national infrastructure.
