Madagascar launches its first 100 % local fish feed plant
ARBIOCHEM, a company specializing in the production of fish feed, has officially inaugurated its facilities in Madagascar. With pellets tailored to local needs and a competitive price, this facility aims to reduce dependence on imports while creating jobs.
Authorities and industry professionals applauded the opening of ARBIOCHEM on January 29, 2025. Specializing in the manufacture of fish feed, this Malagasy plant produces feed for carp and tilapia. The company positions itself as a key player in aquaculture self-sufficiency, contributing to reducing dependency on imports in this sector. Its pellets, sized between 3 mm and 4 mm, meet technical standards validated by local farmers after several months of testing.
With an annual demand estimated at 257,000 tonnes of fish feed, Madagascar still relies on imported products, which are often costly. ARBIOCHEM aims to reduce these external purchases by 10 % by offering an affordable and quality local supply, according to its CEO, Rivo Andriamanalina. « Our goal is to support fish farmers while valuing national resources », he stated during the ceremony.
The socio-economic impact of the project is also praised. The company, entirely owned and managed by Malagasy, exclusively employs local workers, creating opportunities in a country where unemployment remains a concern. « It is a pride to see initiatives that embody our ability to innovate », said the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Paubert Mahatante, who attended alongside Lantovololona Felaniana, Director of Aquaculture.
This opening is part of a sustainable agricultural transformation for the aquaculture sector, as emphasized by the stakeholders. The Minister calls for collective support: « The demand exceeds the capacity of a single structure. We must pool our efforts to succeed ». ARBIOCHEM now aims to expand nationwide, thus strengthening its role in food security and economic empowerment. Another step to prove that Madagascar can rely on its own strengths.
