Cyclone Season : Alert for a Depressive System

La Réunion could be affected within the next 48 Hours

Météo France is currently monitoring two cyclone alert zones. One of them concerns a tropical depression located over 2,000 kilometers from La Réunion.

In the coming days, this phenomenon could intensify to the stage of a tropical storm before weakening into a post-tropical depression and approaching the Mascarene Islands. Although a threat is possible, experts believe it is still too early to assess the potential impacts on inhabited areas.

Meteorologists are also observing a tropical disturbance located 2,370 km to the East-North-East of La Réunion. It is currently moving south at a speed of 7 km/h. According to Météo France, this system is expected to progress south-westward while strengthening and reaching the stage of a tropical storm within the next 48 hours. Until Friday, it will remain distant from populated areas. However, beyond this period, the Mascarene Islands (Rodrigues, Mauritius, La Réunion) could be exposed to more severe weather conditions.

Current forecasts indicate that this system could evolve between January 29 and February 2. During this period, the phenomenon will alternate between a tropical depression and a tropical storm. It is therefore advisable to monitor the situation and take preventive measures in case of aggravation.
