SARCOF-30 : Antananarivo hosts workshop on 2025 rainfall forecasts
From January 28 to 30, 2025, Madagascar will host the 30th workshop on rainfall season forecasts for Southern Africa (SARCOF-30). This event brings together 16 countries in the region and aims to strengthen early warning systems to better face climate challenges.
Madagascar has the honor of hosting, at the Novotel Convention and Spa in Antananarivo, the 30th workshop on 2025 rainfall season forecasts for Southern Africa (SARCOF-30). This regional event gathers delegations from 16 countries as well as climatology experts with a common objective: anticipating the impacts of extreme weather events.
The Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Valéry Ramonjavelo, officially opened the workshop, highlighting its importance for the region’s climate future. According to him, “This meeting was a precious opportunity to strengthen resilience to climate challenges.“
The theme of this edition, “Bridging the Gaps in Early Warning,” aligns with the theme of World Meteorological Day 2025. Participants exchange ideas on improving early warning systems, essential for protecting populations and economies from risks related to floods, droughts, and other extreme events.
The forecasts unveiled during this workshop allow the agricultural, energy, and health sectors to make informed decisions for the 2025 rainy season. By strengthening regional cooperation, SARCOF-30 marks a key step towards a more sustainable and resilient future for Southern Africa.
