Comoros and Tanzania Collaborate
On Friday, January 17, 2025, Comorian President Azali Assoumani hosted the Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania, Saidi Othmani Yakubu, along with Tanzanian entrepreneur Mohamed Ikbal, at Beit-Salam.
The meeting aimed to discuss preparations for the Africa Energy Summit, scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam at the end of the month. This summit, held under the auspices of the African Union, seeks to ensure access to electricity for all Africans by 2063. In this context, Tanzania is leading technical meetings and discussions among leaders to refine the energy projects to be presented.
During the meeting, the Tanzanian ambassador introduced a project to support this continental initiative. President Assoumani expressed his support and announced his active participation in the project alongside his technical advisors.
The ambassador also introduced Mohamed Ikbal, a Tanzanian entrepreneur specializing in the construction of affordable housing, administrative buildings, and accessible hotels. Having achieved success in Tanzania and Saudi Arabia through the use of modern technologies to offer competitively priced constructions, Ikbal expressed his interest in replicating this model in the Comoros. He requested government support to bring this project to fruition.
Ikbal outlined his proposal for the archipelago, which President Assoumani welcomed. However, the President emphasized the importance of conducting a thorough feasibility study to define the terms of its implementation.
