Eye Health in Comoros : Strengthening Local Skills

Ensuring the training of medical staff

Several entities are collaborating to enhance the skills of Comorian ophthalmologists and promote eye health. An urgent call is made to the Comorian government and relevant authorities to increase their support for these initiatives.

In collaboration with the National Program for the Fight Against Blindness (Pnlc), El-Maarouf Hospital, and the Ministry of Health, the French charitable organization, which brings together ophthalmologists and surgeons, has been welcomed once again. A press conference was held to warmly receive them and unveil the program of their mission in Comoros.

The event saw the participation of the Director General of El-Maarouf Hospital, who is also the Comorian coordinator of the project, along with local and international medical teams. The objective of this mission is to continue surgical operations and ensure the training of medical staff on-site. It will conclude with a symposium to be held this Wednesday at the Retaj Hotel, addressing the topic « Emergencies in Ophthalmology ».

The Director of El-Maarouf Hospital, Assoumani Aboudou, expressed his sincere gratitude to all involved members. Particularly to Dr. Chanfi Mohamed, who has been dedicated for years to maintaining this exemplary partnership of exchange and training. This collaboration is part of a technical cooperation effort aimed at training future Comorian ophthalmologists, to address the significant deficit of specialists in the country. « We applaud this initiative that offers quality care to the most vulnerable individuals. We aspire to achieve a great accomplishment in this mission, particularly concerning the prevention of eye diseases that may lead to blindness, while strengthening the training of El-Maarouf’s medical staff », he affirmed. On his part, Coordinator Chanfi Mohamed calls on the government and relevant authorities to prioritize the fight against blindness.
