Theme : Ability to feed oneself autonomously
Madagascar will host the Indian Ocean Commission (COI) summit in Nosy-Be on April 24, 2025. Food self-sufficiency and island collaboration will be the main topics of this summit.
This will be a meeting marked by solidarity, with the possible presence of French President Emmanuel Macron. On April 24, the leaders of the member nations of the Indian Ocean Commission will hold a meeting in Nosy-Be. This year, the Malagasy government is organizing its first international event.
The summit will focus on a crucial issue: the ability to feed oneself autonomously. It will be an opportunity to discuss approaches to strengthen food security in the region. The Malagasy government also sees this event as a chance to promote its agricultural projects.
The participation of President Emmanuel Macron in this summit is highly anticipated. President Andry Rajoelina has extended a personal invitation to the French President. Although the Élysée has not yet confirmed his visit, it would reinforce France’s commitment to its overseas territories and its allies in the Indian Ocean. This trip could also be motivated by the prospect of Mayotte’s potential membership in the COI.
Nosy-Be is a popular resort destination in Madagascar. This city symbolizes the advantages of the Great Island. To enhance the country’s reputation on the global stage, the Malagasy government is committed to ensuring the success of this event. A preparatory committee is already in place to organize the preparations.
