Weekend under surveillance
The main meteorological administration encourages residents of the Diana, Sava, and Ambatosoa regions to closely monitor the development of a cyclone in the Indian Ocean.
This Saturday, the cyclone will pose a threat to the northeast or central-east of Madagascar. According to forecasts, this region with unstable weather conditions will influence Madagascar’s weather by the end of the week. According to the General Directorate of Meteorology, Cyclone Dikeledi could hit the northeast coast on January 11th.
Authorities are also urging residents to follow their instructions. Areas in northern Madagascar are preparing for the arrival of a cyclone. « Once the green alert is issued, we will start public awareness sessions. The goal is for individuals in at-risk areas to move to shelters as quickly as possible to prevent incidents », notes the Ambilobe district, one of the areas most affected by Cyclone Gamane in March 2024.
In this district, pre-positioned reserves are already in place, shelter sites have been identified, and a boat is ready if needed. The cyclone is still a considerable distance from Madagascar, over 3,000 km east of Antalaha. It continues its westward path at a speed of 20 to 25 km/h.
