Emphasis on Environmental Preservation
The construction of the 10-km expressway connecting RN2 to the Port of Toamasina is making steady progress.
According to the Ministry of Public Works, the project is slated for completion by the end of 2025, with the infrastructure set to officially open in early 2026. Currently, 30 % of the construction is complete. Richard Rafidison, the Minister of Public Works, recently visited the site to assess the progress.
Minister Rafidison reiterated that the expressway will be directly linked to the Antananarivo-Toamasina highway. Work is ongoing on the initial 80 kilometers of the highway as part of the second phase of the social and environmental impact study. The government remains committed to this project, highlighting its significant economic benefits, such as reduced travel times and fuel savings.
The construction route for the highway will be unveiled in March 2025. The government has placed a strong emphasis on environmental preservation, pledging to minimize any environmental impact during the project.
