Soon distribution of AMG cards
The management team for the pilot phase of Universal Health Insurance (AMG) recently held a press briefing to ensure a consistent and expert flow of information on the progress of this initiative.
The goal of the Universal Health Insurance (AMG) program is to enhance healthcare accessibility for everyone. Supported by the government of Colombia and the French Development Agency (AFD), this project seeks to bring transformative change to Comorian healthcare. Around 20 journalists attended the briefing to help raise awareness among the Comorian population about the significance of this initiative.
This meeting emphasized the importance of clear, accurate communication during the pilot phase to foster understanding and public support. Specific regions in Ngazidja, Ndzuani, and Mwali have been selected to test the system before scaling it nationwide. Said Ali, the program’s communications lead, highlighted that such an innovative policy demands focused communication efforts to avoid misunderstandings and ensure broad public engagement. He also noted that France has contributed €16 million to launch the initial phase.
This financial support includes assistance for vulnerable families unable to pay their premiums. Additionally, the government is expected to contribute funds to ensure the program’s long-term sustainability. The initial phase, conducted between August and October, successfully identified households in pilot areas. The current pre-affiliation stage involves collecting essential data on the 52,000 identified households using a tailored questionnaire.
Once this data collection process is complete, the distribution of insurance cards will begin, making it easier for beneficiaries to access healthcare services.
