Promoting women’s leadership in Africa
The African Women Leaders Network plans to establish a branch in the Comoros. This African organization, recognized by the United Nations and founded in 2017, is dedicated to fostering women’s leadership across the continent.
The organization’s mission is to promote female leadership in Africa to achieve sustainable peace and progress. The project’s implementation began with a consultation session in Mutsamudu, which brought together 150 women. The purpose was to gather insights on their entry into professional life, focusing on socio-economic and political aspects.
Sittina-Echat Salim, a network member and Regional Director for Gender Promotion, emphasized the significance of this initial gathering for women. She highlighted the opportunities offered by the network while acknowledging the challenges it faces. « We brought together 150 women to explore an African network of female leaders called the African Women Leaders Network. We aim to establish its counterpart in the Comoros », she stated.
The recommendations from this consultation will materialize into projects aimed at empowering and supporting women within their communities. The network plans to provide training in areas such as communication and leadership. « However, customs, lack of information, inadequate training, and financial management remain significant obstacles », Salim pointed out.
Fatima Saidali, a politician, stressed the importance of addressing the pressing challenges faced by each community and providing tangible solutions. « It is crucial to seize the opportunity this network offers to unite our efforts and collaborate, whether in the political, entrepreneurial, or social sphere. Economic empowerment remains a key asset to sustain », she affirmed.
