New funding from the World Bank
The government of Seychelles and the World Bank discussed new areas of collaboration on Monday, including climate change financing and public sector performance assessments to enhance the efficiency of the renewable energy industry.
Victoria Kwakwa, the World Bank’s Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, met with the Minister of Finance, National Planning, and Trade, Naadir Hassan, following her site visit on Sunday. Kwakwa and her team visited several locations along the east coast of Mahé, examining various project sites designed to mitigate the effects of erosion caused by climate change, funded with World Bank support.
The first phase of the project, covering a 300-meter coastal stretch for 152,000 USD, has been completed. During her meeting with Hassan on Monday, Kwakwa emphasized the importance of the site visit, particularly regarding the impacts of climate change. « We place great value on the voices of our clients, especially those of small island states. The World Bank is ready to support Seychelles », she stated.
Hassan highlighted « the need to collaborate with development entities like the World Bank, particularly to coordinate and align objectives, given the limited resources available ».
