Strengthening healthcare services delivery
Multiple locations across Ngazidja will offer free diabetes screenings on November 16, while the NGO Santé Diabète has organized a march in Moroni for this year’s awareness campaign.
The non-governmental organization Santé Diabète held an awareness march on Sunday, November 10, in Moroni as part of its annual campaign against diabetes. The event brought together various organizations, including the Sitara Association, Cause Bleue sports club, and an association focused on combating endometriosis.
According to the organizers, the decision to hold the march was purposeful; they aimed to engage passersby and community members at the campaign launch, introducing the program of activities planned for 2024. This march also provided a chance to promote diabetes prevention through physical exercise. Walking, like other forms of physical activity, is strongly recommended for diabetes prevention. Early detection remains crucial for better diabetes management, as with any health condition.
This year’s theme is « Diabetes and Well-being » focusing on patient support and comprehensive care. In Comoros, diabetes affects over 11% of the population. In response, healthcare professionals, working closely with the Ministry of Health and other partners, emphasize training medical staff to strengthen service delivery. To prevent this condition, the Director of the Prevention Project advocates for increased screenings to enhance early detection and intervention efforts.
