Research as a fundamental pillar for any University
The University of Mascareignes (UdM) will host its third Research Week on its Rose-Hill and Pamplemousses campuses on October 24 and 25.
This key event highlights research conducted by UdM students, faculty researchers, and collaborators. The partnerships span various sectors such as engineering, management, public health, and computer science. On Thursday, October 24, at the Rose-Hill campus, Bertrand Hanauer, CEO of Transinvest Construction Ltd., and Dr. Emilio Saldivar, Managing Director of Water Research Co Ltd, officially kicked off the Research Week.
Dr. Radhakhrishna Somanah, Director General of UdM and initiator of the Research Week, emphasized the active involvement of faculty researchers and students in organizing the event. They will present their work through workshops and scientific posters. He also highlighted the main objective of the Research Week: to promote the diversity of research within the different faculties of the University while facilitating exchanges between researchers, students, industry partners, and the general public. He reiterated the importance of research as a fundamental pillar for any university. Notably, UdM is among the leaders in research in Mauritius.
Bhamini Sreekeessoon, a PhD candidate and head of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering courses at UdM, is one of the participants. She recently won the 2023 L’Oréal-UNESCO Young Talents Sub-Saharan Africa award for Women in Science. This is her third participation in the Research Week, where she will discuss her work on marine energy. She encourages students to seize the opportunity to showcase their research and innovative concepts in a collaborative environment.
