Seychelles – Malaysia : Diplomatic Agreement on Air Services

Modernizing Seychelles International Airport

According to a press release from the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday, diplomatic agreements regarding air services are currently being developed between Malaysia and Seychelles.

The Minister of Transport for Seychelles, Antony Derjacques, and his Malaysian counterpart, Anthony Loke, discussed this matter primarily during the World Air Services Negotiation Event (ICAN-2024), held in Kuala Lumpur. The talks aimed to provide relevant data while advancing Seychelles’ airport master plan project. Loke also invited Derjacques and his team to visit Malaysian airports.

The visit was intended to share ideas and effective methods with Seychelles to modernize Seychelles International Airport. This year, Seychelles’ airport strategic plan was completed earlier, with its final presentation to the Cabinet on June 26. The Cabinet, which still has concerns about certain facilities and financial plans, is reviewing both aspects.

In 2022, during the 50th anniversary of Seychelles International Airport’s establishment, Garry Albert, CEO of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), announced a significant upgrade to the airport to cope with increasing traffic. In addition to air travel discussions, the two ministers highlighted the crucial role of interpersonal relations, particularly the growing number of Seychellois students pursuing their studies in Malaysia. The ministers agreed that this academic engagement is essential for strengthening Seychelles’ skills and contributing to the nation’s future progress.
